Together Øya and Field Day have teamed up to present the best new bands form their respective countries.
ØYA festival is one of Norway’s biggest festivals, growing steadily over the last decade. It always features a diverse line-up from around the globe, and prides itself on striving to be a completely eco-friendly festival. This year’s festival features artists as diverse as Fleet Foxes, Warpaint, and Bring Me the Horizon.
FIELD DAY is a one-day music festival held in Victoria Park in August, which was started in 2007, and is programmed by Eat Your Own Ears. Having sold out every one of the last 4 years, Field Day has grown in popularity, with the number and calibre of acts expanding every year. Past headliners include Mogwai, Phoenix, Foals, Matthew Dear and Justice. The festival now has 6 different stages, and a Village Fete area where festival goers can try their hand at sack racing, tug of war, egg and spoon and other traditional games, or maybe buy a cake or a cup of tea.
FICTION formed in 2009, and have been described as ‘perfect, anarchic pop’. They re-imagine post-punk as something free and excitable -full of dazed, sunny charm- and featuring two ring leading drummers-cum-front men, propelling things into some kind of giddy kraut-tropicalia wonderland.
LUCY SWANN has captured the attention of the Norwegian music scene with her powerful vocals and explosive live performances. She composes intuitively and with her audience in mind. Her pop music explores the balance between electronic and organic elements as well as mixing a classic British modesty with an intensely soulful presence. The outcome is hard-hitting, rhythmic and flirtatious compositions, all relating to her primary sources of inspiration, gospel and soul.
Team Me play warm and rich orchestrated pop music. This used to be Marius D. Hagen’s one-man band – a recording project where he could play the songs that didn’t fit in his other bands. But Team Me has grown into a seven-strong orchestra and the fragile acoustic songs Hagen used to play have been transformed into a much larger and richer sound.
